Delaware County Courthouse Located in Downtown Manchester

Delaware County Courthouse
The present Delaware County Courthouse, which is the fourth built in the County, was constructed at a cost of $36,860 (plus $800 for plumbing) in 1894-1896. The structure is included in the National Register of Historical Places.

The main structure of the Courthouse is 76 feet wide and 100 feet long. The tower and steeple on the northeast corner is 135 feet high. The bell and clock in the tower were bought and paid for in 1895 by approximately 700 local citizens whose names are listed on a plaque located on the first floor near the office of the County Treasurer.

While much of the interior has been remodeld, the 18" thick walls, the decorative metal ceiling on the first floor and the elaborate woodwork show the original grandeur of the building.

The Veterans’ Monument located on the northeast corner of the grounds is in memory of all Delaware County Veterans and was paid for by local donations.

Located just outside the office of the County Supervisors is a replica of an 1869 map of Delaware County bordered by 45 pictures depicting early events and scenes in the County.

Inside the Supervisors office you will find a 1882 map of the County showing the locations of the long forgotten communities or York, Campton, Barryville, Towerhill, Uniontown, Millheim and Rockville.
